Chain of Responsibility for Non-conforming Building Products

The Property Council has provided a submission to the Queensland Parliament’s inquiry into the Building and Construction Legislation (Non-conforming Building Products – Chain of Responsibility and other Matters) Amendment Bill 2017.

While supporting actions to ensure the issue of non-conforming building products is addressed, the Property Council has called for a harmonised approach at a national level, and stressed the importance of tackling issues at the point of supply or production.

In the wake of the recent deadly London fire, Australian Building Codes Board’s general manager Neil Savery has outlined that there are never any guarantees, especially in older buildings, but Australia’s building codes are among the best in the world.

The Property Council has encouraged the Government to adequately resource regulatory agencies to ensure they are able to identify and respond to non-conforming building products under the new legislation.
