Certificate of Occupancy issued for Flinders University Student HubBuildSurv has recently issued the Certificate of Occupancy for the Flinders University Student Hub which concludes their involvement on this exciting project. The project includes a new Registry building, new and refurbed Union and Mall building, food court, rooftop garden and a 2,000 seat outdoor amphitheatre complete with giant screen and adds to an impressive list of projects that BuildSurv have provided Building Code Compliance and approvals for. Other projects recently completed include SAHMRI and the Adelaide Convention Centre Stage 1 with a number of projects in construction including the Aldi state-wide retail rollout, Quest Port Adelaide, the Campbelltown Leisure Centre, Adelaide Convention Centre Stage 2 and LifeCare Residential Aged Care Roselin Court. Directors Andrew Cialini and Brett Fennell, together with their staff, provide a refreshing perspective on Building Code compliance with a “can do” attitude. Early involvement, often prior to even obtaining planning consent, is recommended to minimise project re-design delays due to compliance issues. “The complexity of current building codes often make it difficult for design teams to identify all compliance risks” said Andrew. “A lot of our success has stemmed from working with the design team throughout the design process, identifying key compliance considerations, assessing options, providing compliance interpretations and resulting in more certain decision making. This minimises major design changes which often occur when a Building Surveyor is not introduced to the project until tender document stage. We have noted a significant increase in clients requiring feasibility assessments on existing buildings for re-use or re-purposing, something we are fairly passionate about. Current legislation does not facilitate re development of existing buildings and we have been heavily involved in working parties looking at ways to improve this”.
