Central Walk modification approved
Department of Planning & Environment has approved Sydney Metro’s modification application for Central Walk.
Central Walk is the first step in the Central Station and precinct revitalisation being led by Transport for NSW with the goal to unlock Central’s potential as an iconic destination and creating a catalyst to revitalise the southern CBD.
The 19-metre wide underground pedestrian tunnel will make it much easier for customers to get around Central Station, providing links between the new Sydney Metro concourse, Sydney Trains platforms and NSW Trains services. The new eastern entrance will also provide customers with direct link on Central Walk to the new Sydney Light Rail station on Chalmers Street.
The modification includes access points to Sydney Trains platforms 16 to 23 and escalators directly to suburban platforms. Construction is expected to start in 2018.
