CBD and South East Light Rail improvements given go aheadThe CBD and South East Light Rail (CSELR) is a major infrastructure project set to transform Sydney. It will provide a fast, reliable public transport service from Circular Quay, through the CBD, to Kingsford and Randwick via Surry Hills, Moore Park and Kensington.Improvements to the CSELR were given the final tick of approval by the Department of Planning last week. These improvements allow for longer light rail vehicles with more seats for customers and per cent more capacity, meaning 13,0 passengers can be moved every hour. There will also be larger platforms and wire free infrastructure to maintain the heritage streetscape along parts of George Street.Construction timeframes have been reduced, with construction to be completed in 2018 and customer services to start in early 2019. Major construction is not expected to begin in George Street until September or October and there will be no changes to bus routes until this time.In preparation for the CSELR, Laing O’Rourke will be carrying out utility survey and investigation night time works along the alignment between 1 March and 22 March 2015.For further information on planned works click here.
