Career in the fast Lane: 2017 future retirement living leader named
Lendlease’s Ryan Lane has been rewarded for his outstanding achievements in NSW and the ACT, taking out the Ingenia Communities Future Retirement Living Leader of the Year at the Property Council of Australia National Retirement Living Awards.
Ryan was highly commended for his capacity to build relationships with residents and lead teams in pressure situations to deliver better than expected results.
Currently Regional Development Manager – NSW & ACT at Lendlease, Ryan is responsible for the management and delivery of three retirement living communities. He delivered the company’s first fully completed development village in Canberra, which was finished under budget, and is now managing the development of 110 new villas while managing a development approval process with local council.
Ben Myers, Executive Director – Retirement Living at the Property Council of Australia, said the award recognises the achievements of young talent who are dedicating their careers to creating great outcomes for older Australians.
“The success of the retirement living sector in years to come will depend on the quality of talent we are able to develop and attract,” Mr Myers said.
“Ryan has shown his capacity to not only be across the design side, but to build relationships with residents, answering their questions and helping them, such as when he stayed with and comforted a resident when they tripped and fell in a village.”
Starting out in Newcastle at Closebourne Village, Ryan relocated to Canberra in 2015 to manage two communities, The Grove and Isabella Gardens.
Ryan has designed the new clubhouse at The Grove with a ferocious eye for detail in ensuring the village is totally accessible, right down to ensuring shelves for newspaper and magazines were at an easy level for an resident to reach.
Colleagues praised Ryan for his ability to stay cool in a crisis, including the time when he found a new builder to develop a village in Sydney just two weeks after the previous builder unexpectedly went into liquidation, ensuring homes were finished on time for the new village residents.
“Ryan has a unique leadership quality in him that all people in our business admire,” said Simon Militano, Lendlease’s Head of Development. “He’s reliable, genuine, caring and is passionate about what he does.”
As the 2017 Future Retirement Living Leader of the Year, Ryan receives a financial contribution towards his ongoing professional development, plus a free holiday from award sponsor Ingenia Communities.
