Calm head in crisis leads to SA award

Angle Vale retirement village manager Alison Greatorex has taken out the South Australia/Northern Territory Programmed Village Manager of the Year award at an event in Adelaide.

Alison, manager of Angle Vale Gardens (operated by Gannon Lifestyle Group), was rewarded for her all-round skill in managing the community of 133 residents, including navigating the South Australian power blackouts last year.

Starting in an administration role in 2013, Alison was promoted to the village manager role the following year and has overseen significant change at Angle Vale Gardens. During last year’s blackouts, Alison reassured residents and communicate clearly while the village’s emergency call system was restored.

Alison also worked tirelessly on Boxing Day last year following a severe thunderstorm which caused more power blackouts and isolated flooding in the village, keeping the community informed at all times.

Alison has overseen the implementation of a ‘short stay’ service at the village to enable people to recuperate after illness or surgery with extra care or support on hand. She has also developed activities with the Angle Vale Gardens Primary School across the road, working with the school principal on knitting classes, storytelling and Anzac Day commemorations.

“Alison has supported an environment that encourages harmony,” said residents committee president Bronte Cooper. “Her leadership style promotes a management ethic that creates an estate that allows positive interaction with residents and management.”

Alison now enters the running for the National Programmed Village Manager of the Year award, to be presented on 27 November on the Gold Coast.

The Village Manager of the Year is proudly presented by Programmed Property Services.
