Call for Help: Warehouse Needed for Refuge Group

Zonta House Refuge Association needs a warehouse to aid the work they do to help women and children who are victims of domestic and family violence.

The association has initiated a service to support women and their families moving into private, public or community housing. They provide a household package to help women with the basic necessities needed to live independently, lessening the financial pressure and stresses of moving forward.

Zonta House Refuge hires a truck several times a month to accommodate the increasing demand from other shelters and refuges that have women and families moving into transitional housing. The service, however, is growing so fast that the current shed housing the items before distribution is overflowing and space is now a critical issue. For the program to succeed, a larger warehouse is required (around 2sqm) to enable volunteers to sort through donations and allow the Perth community to deliver donations directly to the warehouse, as the current location is attached to a protected transitional home.

The organisation welcomes offers of short term or long term use of a warehouse that is not currently under lease. They have also applied for a Lotterywest grant to purchase a furniture removal truck to be dedicated to the service.
