‘Business as usual’ on vegetation management
The Queensland Government has announced a ‘business as usual’ stance on vegetation management in the short term.
Natural Resources and Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham has reassured stakeholders that current vegetation management practices remain in operation, and there will be no rushed changes to the Vegetation Management Act.
Minister Lynham’s media statement can be found here.
In 2012, Queensland’s Office of Best Practice Regulation found that prior to the legislative amendments introduced to the VMA in 2013, the framework included 613 regulatory requirements for landholders.
The amendments introduced in 2013 have helped to reduce the complexity of the vegetation management framework and reduce the regulatory burden for landowners, businesses and government.
Preserving the 2013 amendments has been a key focus for the Property Council in our early engagement with the new Government.
