Built Environs reaches the top of West Franklin

West Franklin, one of Adelaide’s largest urban regeneration developments located in the West End part of Adelaide’s CBD has achieved an important milestone. Project builder Built Environs has reached the top of the 20 storey structure.

The current workforce is approximately 200 on site each day. Hundreds of construction jobs are being generated during stage one, with over subcontracting firms employed at the $300 million development.

Nicho Teng, Managing Director of Greaton comments, “Construction started on the project in April last year and we are on track to open early next year. This is a significant milestone for the business. We are demonstrating our commitment to job creation in Adelaide and helping stimulate the growing economy.

“The 5,000 sqm site was purchased from Adelaide City Council in 2014. We knew it had the potential to dramatically change Adelaide’s City West and that vision is now coming to fruition. This area of the city has been dormant for many years. When West Franklin opens it will activate the entire West End precinct and become an iconic lifestyle destination that the West End community will be very proud to call home.”

Daryl Young, Managing Director at Built Environs said, “The West Franklin project has provided the perfect platform to showcase Built Environs multi-story building ability, whilst continuing to grow and develop our collaborative working relationship with Greaton.

“With the super structure now reaching its highest point, both jump forms have been removed. The next major milestone will be the removal of the two tower cranes which is programmed for September this year.”

“Property is the largest private sector employer in South Australia – providing more jobs than mining and manufacturing combined,” said Torie Brown, SA Executive Director (Acting) for the Property Council of Australia.

“Projects like West Franklin power our industry and grow the South Australian economy, all while transforming our capital city into a vibrant and exciting place to live.”

Ms Brown continued, “The results from the ANZ/Property Council survey released in early July revealed the impact that new developments have had on the industry. The South Australian property sector is now the most confident in the nation.

“There is certainly a buzz in Adelaide’s property circles with forward work expectations increasing again on last quarter to the highest rate in Australia. Several property developments are currently changing the skyline. They are a visual testament to how our city is being shaped by a growing sector.”

Lord Mayor Martin Haese congratulated Greaton and Built Environs on reaching today’s milestone.

“Quality developments are strong contributors to Adelaide’s reputation as a truly vibrant place to live, work and play,” said the Lord Mayor.

“Aided by schemes such as the City of Adelaide’s ‘Free Rates for Five Years’ program for owner-occupiers, West Franklin is another great example of how Adelaide’s West End is growing into a thriving residential precinct.”

The first stage of West Franklin is located on the corner of Elizabeth and Franklin Streets and comprises 271 residential apartments spread across two towers (north tower is 20 storeys and the south tower is 18 storeys). They both share a common podium comprising 1,245 sqm of retail and commercial on the ground level, resident facilities and car parking.

Residential facilities in the podium area, adjoining the two towers on level seven include a 20 metre glass edged pool, gym, sauna and steam room with spectacular views to the beach, CBD and parklands. This area will also feature a landscaped Sky Park BBQ area, seated areas, indoor lounge, kitchen and dining spaces, golf driving simulator, exclusive cinema and shared library/office. The north tower’s level 20 boasts a stunning roof top terrace, indoor/outdoor seating and fireplace for residents.

Local Adelaide architects Brown Falconer led the exterior design and interior fit-out. The urban village precinct has been designed to meld with the historic fabric of the site. Its stylish glass, metal and concrete exteriors are designed for the 21st Century.

Only ten apartments remain in West Franklin comprising four 1 beds, four 3 beds and two bespoke penthouses with prices starting from $375,000.
