Buildings that BreatheBrisbane City Council has released its final ‘Buildings that Breathe’ design guide, a non-statutory manual aimed at encouraging the use of subtropical building design features.The New World City Design Guide – Buildings that Breathe is an initiative that came out of the Brisbane City Centre Master Plan 2014 and will provide architects, planners, developers and property professionals with a best-practice benchmark for future projects. Council’s vision is for a unique atmosphere for Australia’s New World City, created by new buildings which will “embrace the subtropical climate by opening up to cooling breezes, providing lush landscaping, shade and comfort.”The key design themes explored in the document are:orientate yourselfoccupy outdoor spacesilluminate with daylightnatural air and ventilationshade and protectliving greeneryidentity mattersreduce energy and waste.
