Buildings in Central Darwin Amendments
The Property Council has informed the Department of Lands of the industry’s views on the proposed amendments to the NT Planning Scheme.
These amendments relate to Clause 6.3 – Buildings in Central Darwin. The proposed amendments are:
- Remove building height limits in Central Darwin;
- Introduce new guidelines on airport building height limits; and
- Amend the Volumetric Control in central Darwin to provide the Development Consent Authority the discretion to vary the building podium controls.
While the Property Council noted that the pursuit by the Government of better planning rules will encourage future development in the Darwin City Centre, concerns were expressed regarding the effectiveness of the proposals around the Volumetric and Setback Controls, and the danger of adding additional time and cost to development should approval from Department of Defence and the Darwin International Airport be required.
