Cladding audit update
The Building Commission’s state-wide cladding audit has entered phase two, which includes identifying buildings that fall within the audit scope. A breakdown of the number and general location of buildings is provided in the Commission’s latest update which is available from this link: https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/publications/state-wide-cladding-audit-status-update
The Property Council is represented at the Building Commission’s Industry Reference Group for the cladding audit. One matter that was raised recently was the need for extra guidance for affected building owners. In response the Building Commission have designed an ‘Assessment Tool for General Purpose Buildings with User Notes’ to help assist building owners assess their buildings.
The document includes an assessment method to be used as a simple tool to assess the level of risk associated with cladding found on general purpose buildings. The form provides a calculation which will indicate the level of risk, and provide an indication of whether it may be necessary to engage a fire engineer to provide a more in-depth assessment.
The assessment tool is available below.
