Building a Resilient Sunshine Coast Economy

The final Property Council Sunshine Coast lunch for 2018 attracted a sold-out crowd to hear different perspectives on how a diverse, robust, and resilient local economy could be achieved in coming years.

Over 1 property professionals attended The Lakehouse at Brightwater, on Friday 9 November, to explore the catalytic potential of the Broadband Submarine Cable project, and hear about the emerging sectors seeking to create new economic opportunities on the Sunshine Coast.

Melissa Kaplan, Chief Digital Advisor – Microsoft, provided a keynote presentation on the ‘fourth industrial revolution’ and what the implications will be for businesses. Melissa spoke to the opportunity being presented by the cable project and how this provides a significant chance for the local economy to secure greater investment.

Following Melissa’s presentation, local Property Council Committee Chairman, Ben Simpson -Regional Manager, North Region Stockland Residential Communities (QLD) – moderated a panel session with Jacqui Price, Board Member – Food Agribusiness Network, Peter Pallot, CEO – Sunshine Coast Airport and Will Shrapnel, Managing Director – HeliMods.

The illuminating discussion canvassed the opportunities being created by these emerging sectors, and how a strong, multi-faceted economy – that can withstand disruption – could be achieved on the Sunshine Coast.

The Property Council would like to thank the speakers for sharing their insights with our Sunshine Coast members and guests, and Rider Levett Bucknall for their sponsorship of the lunch.
