Brookfield to deliver Monash Uni accommodationMonash University has enlisted Brookfield Multiplex to deliver a $145 million student accommodation precinct at its Clayton campus, comprising four new residential buildings offering a gross floor area of 40,000 sqm.The new buildings will include 1000 studio apartments and will offer a mix of retail and informal learning spaces.Several high-profile architects have been engaged to work on the buildings, each of which will have its own look and identity. However, all will feature common areas such as games rooms and lounge areas, and the buildings will share landscaping.Jackson Clements Burrows Architects, Hayball, Richard Middleton Architects and McBride Charles Ryan will contribute designs.The buildings will be constructed to achieve 5 Star Green Star ratings and will incorporate a range of Ecologically Sustainable Development features, including shade fins on the buildings’ exteriors to increase thermal comfort and minimise the need for air-conditioning. A range of eco-friendly materials will be used throughout the construction.Brookfield Multiplex has significant experience in the residential and education sectors, with five residential projects currently under construction in Victoria, including the $300 million Prima Tower in Southbank. The company has also been responsible for delivering several high-profile education facilities in the state, among them the $200 million Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’s Swanston Academic Building in Melbourne’s CBD.”Student accommodation is a great sector for us as it combines our skills in delivering quality residential developments with our experience in working in busy, live education environments,” said Graham Cottam, Brookfield Multiplex Regional Managing Director.The new precinct is due for completion in December 2015, in time for the 2016 academic year.
