Brisbane City Plan Amendments
Brisbane City Council has adopted amendments to the Brisbane City Plan 2014.
Retirement and Aged Care Amendments
The retirement and aged care amendments package promotes the refurbishment of existing facilities and the reuse of sites, and broadening the zones where retirement and aged care facilities can be developed.
Amendments also seek to increase allowable building heights for retirement and aged care facilities in medium and high-density residential zones, where a neighbourhood plan does not specify a building height.
The amendments also allow colocation, through integration with other uses including small businesses, health care services and childcare centres.
The Property Council has previously supported the amendments as they provide further opportunities to develop purpose built seniors’ housing for our ageing population.
The Gap Neighbourhood Plan
Brisbane City Council has also made amendments to The Gap Neighbourhood Plan.
Amendments include: •maintaining The Gap’s traditional suburban, low-density character
•protecting the environment and greenspace, including several significant trees
•encouraging redevelopment of The Gap Village shopping centre to provide better walking connections with adjoining parks and residential areas
•allowing diverse housing types (up to three storeys in height) in a limited area near The Gap Village shopping centre. This will allow for residents to continue to live in The Gap as their needs change over time
•providing more guidance about what development may occur on sites already zoned for residential use. This will be done by outlining the type of housing suitable for the sites and clearly mapping ecological features to be protected.
