Brisbane City Council’s Planning and Suburban Renewal Chair Cr Adam Allan has unveiled Our Productive City: Brisbane’s Industrial Future at the Property Council’s Industrial lunch.

The new strategy is based on a review of the previous iteration and aims to maximise industrial land, while also ensuring Brisbane’s industrial precincts are able to offer a diversity of jobs, services, and facilities.

We are pleased to see that feedback relating to Major Industry Areas and Urban Enterprise Areas given to Brisbane City Council via our submission and ongoing consultation has been taken into consideration.

Our Productive City: Brisbane’s Industrial Future has three key approaches:

1. Adapting

Brisbane City Council has identified almost 400 hectares of industrial land across Brisbane that can be adapted for higher value industry, employment opportunities and non-industrial activities. This includes land in Albion/Newstead, Moorooka and Coorparoo that will be a catalyst for suburban and urban renewal.

2. Transitioning

Industrial-zoned land which does not have long-term value for industrial purpose will be partially or fully transitioned to other uses.

3. Renewing

Most of Brisbane’s industrial land will be renewed, with a focus on improved amenity and productivity.

The Strategy provides a high-level view of Council’s intent, and delivery of the Action Plan within the document will be vital in transforming Brisbane’s industrial landscape to reflect market trends and stimulate investment.
