Breakfast with Hon Cameron Dick MP
During the latest Queensland Breakfast, held on Tuesday 9 October 2018, Hon Cameron Dick MP provided the industry with an overview of the latest initiatives under his portfolio, as the Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning.
Throughout the breakfast, the Minister spoke to the challenges of planning and land availability, Queensland’s latest Priority Development Areas, and the exciting projects underway in Queensland’s regional areas.
Speaking to the Department’s progress with the South East Queensland Growth Monitoring Program (as part of the SEQ Regional Plan), the Minister congratulated the Department and the SEQ Housing Supply Expert Panel (HSEP) on their work to date. The HSEP- an initiative championed by the Property Council and QCOSS- is an independent panel, created to oversee land supply in SEQ and to ensure local governments meet the dwelling and employment benchmarks established in ShapingSEQ.
In combination with the HESP and the Growth Monitoring Program, the Department is also working towards finalisation of the ‘Measures that Matter’, and its approach to under-utilised land within the urban footprint. The Minister revealed these projects are on track and the Measures that Matter Dashboard will be released shortly.
The Minister also referenced the two new Priority Development Areas declared at Oxley and Yeronga TAFE- the Yeronga site was suggested through the Property Council’s ‘Six Sites’ report, which highlighted redevelopment opportunities on six underutilised government holdings.
Minister Dick also spoke to recent work underway on the site of the former Toowoomba Gasworks, another opportunity highlighted by the Property Council’s research.
Minister Dick then took questions from the audience, which ranged from local issues relating to planning and infrastructure, through to how the private sector can work with the Government to deliver greater economic activity for Queensland.
The Property Council would like to thank the Minister for taking the time to engage with the industry, as well as our Queensland Breakfast Series sponsor RCP, and supporting sponsor, Stockland, for their support of the event.
