Big opportunities for small property players

A new category of membership for companies with less than five staff will support start-ups and entrepreneurial thinkers, while enhancing the Property Council’s diversity agenda and influence. Find out why.

On 1 July, the Property Council will introduce a new category of membership, Associate C – a move that responds to demand from smaller companies for networking and business-building opportunities.

One of the companies eligible for Associate C membership is Jattca Property Solutions. Director Tina Tang (pictured left), has worked with many of the biggest names in property – including Lendlease, Multiplex, Investa and Citta Property Group – and has spent the last six years running her own strategic advisory firm.

Tang says the new membership category will encourage smaller businesses to join the Property Council ecosystem, enhance its membership diversity and expand its advocacy fire power.

“Networking is just as important to smaller businesses as it is to large ones. I’ve been a member of the Property Council when I worked in large corporate environments and understand the value. This new membership category helps smaller businesses to focus their cash flow on activities that will take their growth to the next level.”

Ben Heritage, a director of Broadway Property in Adelaide, agrees.

He says membership of the Property Council is particularly important to companies in their infancy.

“We need to develop and foster relationships not only on a local level, but also nationally. We have clients in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and want to use local business relationships where we can – this new membership can help us do that.”

Martin Kelly (pictured right), partner in charge of the Darwin office of legal firm Finlaysons, is enthusiastic about the Associate C membership, which he says demonstrates that the Property Council is “in tune with its stakeholders”.

Kelly says his firm has a small but expanding Northern Territory presence, and “membership tailored to our market share will help us to increase our profile and grow our business at a very reasonable cost.”

Kirsty Smith, managing director of Kelen Property says the Property Council does a “wonderful job of advocating for and supporting the sustainable growth of our industry”.

“This new membership category allows me to support those efforts, which benefit all of us in the property industry.”
