‘Big Guns’ fire

More than 400 people attended the latest Property Council Downtown Lunch featuring three industry leaders.

After the success of the 2014 luncheon, Mark Steinert, Managing Director and CEO- Stockland, Daryl Browning, Chief Executive Officer- ISPT, and Steve Leigh, Managing Director- QIC Global Real Estate returned for ‘Big Guns II Reloaded’.

Turi Condon, Property Editor- The Australian, moderated the panel discussion that covered a range of topics, including;

• the Federal budget,
• housing affordability,
• infrastructure delivery,
• foreign capital,
• office markets, and
• the residential market.

The discussion covered local market conditions, with Mark Steinert congratulating the Queensland Treasurer, Hon Curtis Pitt MP, for not taking the lead from the Victorian and Federal Governments, and ruling out introducing fees on foreign investment. Mark emphasised that this decision provides certainty and confidence for the industry in Queensland.

Daryl Browning spoke about ISPT’s investment in the Queen Street Mall, and how the Queensland retail sector will be strong over the next 12 months.

The residential market in South East Queensland was a hot topic of the discussion, with Steve Leigh commenting that Brisbane house prices are at a very fair value at the moment. The panel discussed how the price differential between Sydney and Brisbane has never been as big as it is currently, and that this will lead to more investment in Queensland. The only caveat on this occurring is the need for jobs growth in Queensland.

The panel all agreed that governments of all persuasions need to understand the economic importance of Australia’s property industry.
