Be part of the 2016 PwC/Property Council Retirement Census
Following the success of last year’s PwC/Property Council Retirement Census, we are now seeking data from all retirement village owners and operators for the 2016 Census.
The data you contribute will be kept completely confidential, and analysed only by our Research and Advisory Partner, PwC, for the purpose of:
- publishing aggregate high level industry trends; and
- giving contributing operator companies a comprehensive report, analysing their data against aggregate data.
Both reports will allow operators to benchmark their performance, improve transparency across the sector, and assist the Property Council with advocacy on behalf of the sector.
This year’s Census includes additional data fields requested by operators to ensure we collect all the information that is needed to benchmark this growing industry and meet government expectations.
The data being collected in 2016 includes information about:
- your village (facilities and units);
- financial data (such as sale prices, deferred payment and resident fees);
- high-level resident demographic data; and
- planned developments.
New in 2016
Businesses and individuals will be able to purchase (for a fee) a report which is more detailed than the high-level report which is made available to the public. However it will not contain the same rich information and analysis that is provided to contributing operators. This is because contributing operators deserve a higher return for the investment of their time in contributing. More detail about what is being sold to market and when will be provided after the collection period ends.
Key dates
Data collection commences: 15 March 2016
Data responses due: 9 May 2016
Data report launched: second half of 2016

To participate
The Census is open to organisations which operate, or are developing, a retirement village in Australia. Both Property Council members and non-members are welcome to contribute data to the census.
Please contact the Property Council at [email protected] and we will supply you with the spreadsheet to complete.
If your organisation is a member of the Property Council, an email was sent to your ‘member rep’ on 15 March 2016 enabling participation in the Census. Please let us know if this was not received.
Contribute and win
Participating operators will also go in the draw to win a brand new Apple Watch Sport, valued at up to $579 RRP. The winner will select from 12 Apple Watch Sport models which come in two sizes (38mm or 42mm) and a variety of case and band materials.
