BCIPA passed by Parliament
The Building and Construction Industry Payments Amendment Bill was passed by Parliament recently, after being considered by the Transport, Housing and Local Government Parliamentary Committee.
The Property Council has long supported the reforms within the Bill, which will ensure fair and equitable statutory securities for all parties involved in construction contracts.
The Property Council’s recent Parliamentary Committee submission can be found here.
Key reforms include:
- The establishment of an independent Adjudication Registry within the Queensland Building and Construction Commission to register and appoint adjudicators
- The introduction of a ‘dual model’ claim regime which grants extended timeframes for large or complex claims
- An extension to the timeframes within which a respondent must provide adjudication responses.
The Bill is available here and the Explanatory Notes are available here.
