Bays Precinct Summit
The Property Council of Australia and industry leaders were among participants at The Bays Precinct Summit hosted by UrbanGrowth NSW last week.
Held over three days, the Summit explored financing solutions and best-practice urban renewal from across the globe.
The first day focused on investment and finance – a major challenge given the scale of the project, particularly the heavy investment needed in public transport.
The following two days saw a range of international and domestic speakers and panellists examine good design and urban domain possibilities.
Property industry leaders including Lend Lease’s Tarun Gupta, Mirvac’s Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz and Stockland’s Mark Steinert featured on the stage.
The Property Council’s NSW Executive Director Glenn Byres also attended all three days of the summit.
“There are challenges to making the precinct work, but it is also an exciting opportunity to reposition Sydney,” Mr Byres said.
“Exemplar projects in design, sustainability and placemaking are already occurring on the harbour foreshore at precincts like Barangaroo.
“The Bays is a unique chance to reuse sterilised land and ensure we get the mix of uses right – as well as support Sydney’s reputation as a global and innovative city.
“We look forward to collaborating in future stages of the project’s development.”
UrbanGrowth NSW will now begin preparing a statement of principles to guide its evolution, before more detailed strategic plans are advanced next year.
