Aurecon Engineer named ACES Young Consulting Engineer of the Year 2017

Global engineering and infrastructure advisory company Aurecon remains committed to developing its talent to be future ready. As a testament to this, Principal Mechanical Engineer Kelvin Chen received the Young Consulting Engineer of the Year 2017 award in the Mechanical Engineering category from the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore (ACES) on 31 March 2017.

The ACES awards recognise young consulting engineers working in Singapore, who have made valuable and consistent contribution to their profession. The recognition also covers completed exemplary work, which showcases the engineers’ design and engineering abilities.

The achievement reflects the culture of design excellence promoted by Aurecon. In a changing world increasingly characterised by uncertainty and disruption, Aurecon embraces the view that engineering design is more than having an understanding of technical specifications and applying these to deliver new infrastructure. Instead, it champions delivering truly meaningful design solutions that acknowledge the importance of human attributes like observation, creativity, as well as a deep understanding of, and empathy with, stakeholders’ desires and needs.

“It is important for me to make an impact with what I do. Aurecon has helped me achieve that by supporting and guiding me to create solutions, delivering great outcomes for clients and stakeholders,” says Kelvin.

Armed this positive mindset, Kelvin successfully delivered projects for a variety of clients, including Amazon, Google, Johnson & Johnson, Lloyd’s of London, and Resorts World Sentosa.

Aurecon’s support for its young professionals is manifested through talent development programmes such as the Foundations of Leadership Programme, which Kelvin completed. This programme is geared towards strengthening engagement and communication skills.

Philip Motteram, Aurecon’s Built Environment Leader in Singapore and Kelvin’s Business Unit Manager, says, “Kelvin has proven himself to be a well-rounded consulting engineer who has the right balance of technical expertise and stakeholder engagement skills. I am delighted that Kelvin has been recognised with this award – he is a success story of Aurecon’s system of talent development.”
