Are we there yet? Australia’s new world city
The Property Council’s Future Directions committee this week hosted Cr Adrian Schrinner, Deputy Mayor of Brisbane and Chairman, Infrastructure Committee, Sahba Abedian, Managing Director – Sunland Group, and Liz Savage, Board Member – Brisbane Marketing to discuss Brisbane’s rise as a new world city.
Major precinct redevelopment, upcoming infrastructure projects, ensuring a diversified workforce and leveraging our tourism appeal were all discussed as essential drivers of Brisbane’s growth into the future.
Cr Shrinner made the point that Brisbane’s gross domestic product is set to almost double over the next 20 years – potentially positioning Brisbane to become one of the world’s most prosperous cities.
The key theme from all three presentations was the role major events have had in Brisbane’s growth. Our speakers highlighted a list of events that have acted as catalysts for the city’s development, and emphasised the importance and impact of the G20 Leaders Summit.
During the panel Q&A session, moderated by Alex Corones, General Manager – ISIS and Chair of the Property Council’s Future Directions Committee, our speakers discussed the importance of cultural precincts, the city’s architectural evolution, and how the property industry can assist in building Brisbane’s profile during the G20.
The Property Council would like to thank our principal sponsors, Savills Project Management, our supporting sponsors Leighton Properties and SGA Property Consultancy as well as our hosts Cooper Grace Ward for their support during this event.
