APPROVED DEVELOPMENT EXTENDED BY SIX MONTHS
Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick has extended the timeframes for undertaking approved development under the applicable event provisions in the Planning Act 2016.
As such, all current development approvals and those that come into effect from the date of the extension notice until the end of the applicable event period on October 31 will be granted another six months to undertake approved development.

The Government is also looking to simplify and improve Queensland’s Planning process by putting a number of new initiatives out for consultation.
The initiatives include helping business recommence across the state by allowing local governments to remove or reduce certain planning approvals without amending their planning scheme.
Other proposed initiatives include:
- transparency measures for notification of development applications by making the temporary changes to existing newspaper requirements for the public notification permanent and a requirement to notify occupiers of adjoining premises not just landowners
- streamlining the processes for Ministerial and local government infrastructure designations by allowing for environmental assessment and public consultation to occur simultaneously
- clarifying the process for local governments to make interim amendments to their Local Government Infrastructure Plans to ensure local governments are able to effectively and frequently make updates in line with planning scheme amendments
