Another cost hike for Melbourne’s future homebuyers

Today the State Government announced standard levies for council infrastructure charges in the growth areas.

The Infrastructure Contributions Plans (ICPs) will see a dramatic increase in what developers currently pay to councils with no correlating increase in provision or service.

Property Council Victorian Executive Director, Sally Capp, said these reforms were meant to stop councils’ gold plating their infrastructure, however, these reforms fall short of that aspiration.

“We congratulate them on the introduction of reporting requirements which hold councils to account for spending these funds,” said Ms Capp.

“We hope that Councils continue to work with industry to ensure that community outcomes remain the priority rather than the bottom line.”
