Released earlier this week, the third report in Anglicare Australia’s Fair series, Ageing in Place: Home and Housing for Australia’s Older Renters explores how Australians want to age and the barriers they face to staying at home, especially for renters.
It presents the findings of a survey that looked at people’s preferences around ageing at home.
Not surprising the vast majority (87%) of people want to remain at home as they get older, with 72% of renters (compared with just 15% of owners) saying cost was the biggest barrier to ageing at home.
Just 46 % of renters said their home was suitable for an older person, compared to 70 % of owners.
