An update from the Lord Mayor – November 2017

There has been a significant emphasis on upgrading our city streets, laneways, bikeways and Park Lands throughout this term of council. A number of projects we are currently implementing will not only improve the amenity for city users, but will also have a positive impact on commercial and residential property values.

One example is the recent completion of the first stage of the $5m Park 19/Pityarilla project which we are delivering with the State Government to provide recreational space for user’s in the city’s South Park Lands. Stage 1 features an off-leash dog park; a wonderful amenity for apartment dwellers who also want to keep pets in their homes. Channel 7 reported on the opening which you can view here.

Additionally, works have now started on the north-south bike corridor along Frome Street. While this project will not only provide safer, segregated bike paths for cyclists in the city, a key feature of this $12m State Government co-funded project is the significant streetscape upgrade which will occur as part of the development. Additional tree planting, greening and footpath upgrades will benefit ground level shop fronts along Frome Street. You can learn more about the project here.

Finally, the City of Adelaide is providing a suite of support initiatives as the city’s East End undergoes significant transformation with the closure of the Old Royal Adelaide Hospital. Ongoing measures include hosting marketing workshops for traders, event opportunities and increased support from the Splash Adelaide program, the one hour free initiative at the Rundle U-Park and of course the extension of the tram along North Terrace will bring more foot traffic to the region. As a result of a motion put forward by Councillor Houssam Abiad, we will be looking to extend this support package. Stay tuned for further updates.

Thank you for interest and investment in the City of Adelaide. I am always keen to discuss how we can improve our capital city, so please don’t hesitate to contact me with your ideas at [email protected]
