An update from the Lord Mayor

The City of Adelaide continues to pursue its agenda of growing our capital city’s population, economy and increasing jobs through our 2017-18 Budget. Among the many key projects we are currently working on, I offer the following highlights:

The City of Adelaide is the first council in South Australia to participate in the Building Upgrade Finance (BUF) mechanism. This is a commercial loan mechanism assisting building owners to access long-term finance at competitive fixed interest rates to improve the energy, water and waste efficiency of existing commercial buildings and undertake upgrades to heritage buildings.

Improving the environmental performance of commercial buildings leads to tangible financial savings for building owners and tenants through reduced utility bills. Environmental and heritage upgrades will also create economic opportunities in the city through the revitalisation of ageing and underutilised buildings. If you are a building owner in the city who stands to benefit from BUF, I strongly encourage you to lodge your interest here.

The City of Adelaide is now one of the fastest growing Local Government Areas in South Australia. Last year, our residential population growth comfortably exceeded the State average. Council’s five year rate free scheme for eligible owner-occupier purchasers of off-the-plan dwellings is now live. Introduced on 1 July this year, I have heard from a number of developers and real estate agents that this is already having a positive effect on driving presales and construction. For residential purchasers interested in registering for the scheme, more information can be found here.

The newly established Council Assessment Panel (CAP), which has been formed to replace the Development Assessment Panel (DAP), has met for the first time this week. For those unfamiliar with the Panel and its functions, you can learn more here.

Thank you for interest and investment in the City of Adelaide. I am always keen to discuss how we can improve our capital city, so please don’t hesitate to contact me with your ideas at [email protected]
