An excellent set of numbers

Industry leaders in the Tasmanian property and construction sector have highlighted their positive expectations with a 17 point increase in the confidence index according to the latest ANZ/Property Council Survey.

The fourteenth survey, which is the largest of its kind in the country, shows Tasmania’s property industry sentiment had experienced significant improvement since the last survey in December 2014.

Property Council Tasmanian Executive Director Brian Wightman said the results were outstanding and demonstrated that Tasmania had a significant opportunity as a result of consistent and increased confidence across the economy.

“Respondents to the survey have indicated their confidence through a number of measures such as forward work schedules and state economic growth”.

A shift in sentiment during the past 12 months was also particularly encouraging with Tasmania recording the only positive result in the country.

“Clearly Tasmania is the place to live, work, invest and develop.” Mr Wightman said.

Mr Wightman praised the State Government for both their focus on job creation and for working towards a sustainable financial bottom line. The result of this hard work has been a significant increase in staffing level expectations since the December 2014 survey.

“The increase in staffing level expectations by respondents is welcome news and will hopefully lead to more employment during the first quarter of 2015.

“We are all on the same page when considering the most important aspect of Tasmania’s future – jobs, jobs, and more jobs.” Mr Wightman said.

The Tasmanian Division of the Property Council of Australia believed that consistent advocacy together with the tourism industry was providing impetus for improved confidence and heightened expectations.

“It is clear that having a majority government, along with significant advocacy work by the Tasmanian Division in areas such as Local Government and planning reform, and of course the visit of the Chinese President appear to be winning the industry’s confidence.

“The expectation of tourism and hotel growth in Tasmania is exciting.” Mr Wightman said.

The survey polled over 1,9 professionals from the property industry in all states and territories for their forward-looking views.
