Airport plans receive federal approvalMaster plans for Adelaide and Perth airports, which will provide strategic direction and intended land use for the airports for the next 20 years, have been approved by the Australian Government.Adelaide Airport is Australia’s fifth largest airport for domestic services and sixth largest for international services. It contributes more than $1.9 billion to the South Australian community and directly employs about 6200 people. “Future development of the Adelaide Airport is a critical step towards boosting Adelaide’s attractiveness as a venue for conferences, opening up flight opportunities and bringing in broader economic benefits for the state,” said Daniel Gannon, South Australian executive director of the Property Council of Australia.”This is a positive development in terms of increasing Adelaide’s attractiveness as an economic destination – we need to continue bulldozing barriers to investment, not building them.”Adelaide Airport is a huge employer in the state and contributes $2 billion to SA’s economy each year.”It’s exciting to see the airport emerging as a growing employment base for the state, with the number of direct and indirect jobs supported by the airport predicted to double to 37,100 by 2034.”Substantial infrastructure projects like the plan proposed by Adelaide Airport are a fantastic boost to the state’s economy, contributing to future investment opportunities for SA, prosperity and population growth.”The 2014 master plan for Perth Airport includes significant developments, such as a third runway, a new terminal and the WA State Government’s Forrestfield Airport Rail Link project. “Currently Perth Airport is one of the busiest in the country, and the transformation detailed in the master plan will alleviate the current congestion and provide a major boost to the state’s economy,” said the WA executive director of the Property Council, Joe Lenzo”As evidence of the importance of this project, currently Perth airport supports 17,000 jobs and contributes $2.71 billion to gross regional product. This is forecast to rise to 42,000 jobs and $7.04 billion in less than 20 years.”
