Affordable Housing Workshop – Bomaderry
The Property Council held two workshops (12th October and 26th October 2017) at the Bomaderry Bowling Club in which members of the Illawarra Committee contributed their ideas and expertise.
The objective of the workshop was to resolve development strategies and concept designs.
The participants included architects, planners, engineers, quantity surveyors and developers, along with relevant Council staff and interested Councillors. Southern Cross Community Housing were also active participants who provided tenants and expert advice for both the consultation and design processes.
Data was collated from the workshops to provide Shoalhaven City Council with details on the site yields, best design options, details on how a partnership could be structured with a Community Housing organisation and / or a private developer, as well as some broad financial outcomes of the proposed development.
This information will form part of the Draft Affordable Housing Strategy being presented to the Shoalhaven City Councillors before the end of the year.
We would like to thank the Shoalhaven City Council for its initiative to develop and adopt a strategy on affordable housing and have welcomed the opportunity to provide details following the two-day Housing Affordability Workshop in Bomaderry.
Illawarra Vision
There is ongoing sentiment amongst Illawarra’s stakeholders and businesses that a strategic vision for the region has not yet been clearly articulated by political leaders, government agencies or any of the planning documents, including the Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Plan.
The Illawarra Chapter of the Property Council of Australia strongly believe in promoting the region recognising that the ‘whole can be greater than the sum of the parts’. There is certainly strength in numbers and, as a region, we have a learnt the cost of not speaking with one voice. The Illawarra has not had its fair share of state funds as successive State Governments have vacillated defining the Wollongong LGA as ‘metropolitan’ when it suits and thereby dividing the region. The Vision project is to set the following mindset;
- Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven are four Councils which together form a stronger Illawarra Shoalhaven region.
- Illawarra Shoalhaven is a connected and diverse community with a resilient Economy in a stunning natural environment.
The Desired Outcome is;
- By acting as a cohesive region, Illawarra Shoalhaven will be recognised as a gateway to opportunities that build prosperity.
-
Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven are four Councils which together form a stronger Illawarra Shoalhaven region
The Proposed Vision Statement is;
- Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven are four Councils which together form a stronger Illawarra Shoalhaven region.
- Illawarra Shoalhaven is a connected and diverse community with a resilient Economy in a stunning natural environment.
- By acting as a cohesive region, Illawarra Shoalhaven will be recognised as a gateway to opportunities that build prosperity.
We are recommending that the Peak Bodies endorse a joint vision and priorities project for the region.
