Advocacy Update

City Deals, and improving CBD vibrancy have been the focus of WA advocacy in recent weeks.

City Deals

The federal government has sent signals that Perth could be the next city to enter into a City Deal. The Property Council has been actively initiating conversations between industry and State and local government around potential benefits of a City Deal; where a deal intersects with the McGowan government’s agenda and the role that the private sector and community could play.

Our national CEO Ken Morrison visited Perth in August and met with Department of Planning Director General Gail McGowan, METRONET Project Director Anthony Kannis, Minister for Housing Peter Tinley, CEO of City of Joondalup Garry Hunt  to provide an overview of the role that Property Council has played in the current three deals in Townsville, Launceston and Western Sydney. The WA Division of Property Council will continue to advocate on the advice and role that the private sector can provide to support the State Government in the delivery of key city building infrastructure such as METRONET and the associated station precincts.

A Vibrant CBD

The Property Council has built on the momentum gained through the Big and Small Ideas for Perth report and Minister for Perth John Carey’s City Summit on August 20. WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella presented the findings of the repot and took part on a panel of various CBD stakeholders.

Office Vacancies

Executive Director of the Property Council Lino Iacomella was on radio this week discussing office vacancies and the initiatives that have been put forward to revitalise the office market in Perth CBD. Lino discussed various ways landlords are attracting and retaining tenants such as free rent periods, office fit outs and other deals.
