Addressing barriers to distributed generationA State Government commitment to promote investment in distributed generation projects and business models has been welcomed by the Property Council.Victoria’s Roadmap for Renewable Energy , released earlier this year highlights a number of initiatives to address challenges in the current policy and regulatory framework governing distributed generation. They include: – Improving the process for connections; – Investigating technical grid constraints ; – Addressing barriers to precinct scale distributed generation; – Enabling solar purchase agreements in Victoria; and, – Investigating new distributed generation business modelsCustomer led changes to improve the connection process for clean energy systems were adopted by the Australian Energy Market Commission following long-standing advocacy by the Property Council, ClimateWorks and Seed Advisory. The new rules require DNSPs to include better information for consumers about the process for connecting cleaner energy plants to the grid, allowing applicants to make an earlier and less costly assessment of the feasibility of their proposals.
