  • November 05, 2015

Additional consultation on Sunshine Coast Airport ExpansionPublic consultation on the Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been reopened, twelve months after its original closure. The Coordinator-General has invited further public comment on supplementary information that the Sunshine Coast Regional Council has prepared in support of the project. The additional information provided by Council to their EIS (the AEIS), was requested by the Coordinator-General to clarify matters raised in submissions to the original consultation process. Submissions are invited to comment on whether the AEIS has adequately addressed matters raised in there submissions. The Sunshine Coast Airport Expansion project will see a new runway constructed at the existing airport site at Marcoola. The development of the new runway will involve the extraction of up to 1.1 million cubic metres of sand from the Spitfire Realignment Channel at Moreton Bay and a temporary pump-out site and pipeline at Marcoola Beach. Submissions close at 5pm on 30 November 2015. Following this process the Coordinator-General will prepare his evaluation report on the project.
