ACT retirement village reforms proposed

The ACT Government has finished a review into the territory’s Retirement Villages Act, which concludes the Act is largely working well but would benefit from minor amendments to clarify operator and resident obligations.

A Bill has been introduced to the ACT Parliament which proposes amendments to internal dispute resolution procedures and village budget approval processes, and clarifies the definitions of capital maintenance and replacement in order to reduce the risk of dispute.

The Property Council’s ACT Retirement Living Committee was part of a review advisory group which assisted the Government in suggesting the reforms.

The Committee was very pleased with the Government’s extensive consultation process and supports the recommendations made in the Bill.
