ACT Government seeks residential properties for public housingDevelopers, builders and other property owners are invited to submit expressions of interest to provide new homes for Canberra’s public housing tenants. The Public Housing Renewal Taskforce has called for expressions of interest as part of its wider program to build and buy new homes to replace the Territory’s ageing public housing. The expression of interest forms part of a wider program to replace 1,288 ageing public housing dwellings across Canberra through a comprehensive mix of methods, including construction and purchase.Minister for Housing Yvette Berry said:This expression of interest is part of the government’s once-in-a-generation commitment to renew our public housing stock and is part of a $159 million commitment in this year’s budget to build new, modern homes that better meets tenants’ needs, now and into the future. We are committed to building better homes because the reality is that much of our high density housing stock is outdated and could never be modified to meet modern standards of housing in our community. As part of the public housing renewal program, the ACT Government is building and acquiring new homes across Canberra to improve the overall quality of the public housing portfolio. This investment will also break down concentrations of disadvantage, support jobs and the renewal of Canberra’s urban areas.Proposals are sought from builders, developers and property owners with:eligible land or development packagesyet to be developed multi unit propertiescompleted or near completed unsold multi unit propertiesother property solutions, including design and construct modelsEligible properties need to comply with design and liveability criteria, and be available for occupation no later than 31 December 2018.Details on the expression of interest are available on the Government’s procurement website at www.procurement.act.gov.au or by calling Colliers International.
