A winning plan for Perth
Property Council WA has challenged City of Perth Lord Mayoral candidates to consider nine compelling ideas to increase economic activity, create jobs and build confidence.
The report, A Plan for Perth, details policies that support the diversification and financial recovery of the CBD, activate underused spaces and put important infrastructure in place for future residents.
Property Council WA Executive Director Sandra Brewer, who has been encouraging eligible stakeholders to ensure they are enrolled to vote by the August 28 deadline, said rates should be cut for commercial property owners to help business and to encourage owners of underused properties to invest.
“There’s only one Perth,” Ms Brewer said. “We want to see City of Perth councillors working together to revitalise the CBD. We need to make sure all levels of government collaborate to ensure a Perth City Deal delivers economic diversity, more jobs and a thriving city centre. It’s important to put vital infrastructure, such as schools and playgrounds, in place to support a future residential population of 90,000 by 20.”
Property Council WA has challenged the candidates for Lord Mayor to test their candidacy against the industry platform at a September 15 lunch event, A New Perth Lord Mayor, at Beaumonde on the Point.
Ms Brewer said Property Council WA members also wanted the new Lord Mayor to advocate to the State Government for a partial refund of the 2019-20 Perth Parking Levy, designed to fund non-car transport options in the city, given more than $130 million was believed to be held in reserve in the fund.
The City of Perth elections will be held on October 17.
