A new campaign is coming

A new campaign set to launch in September will highlight the property industry’s economic and social contribution to shaping cities, creating homes, jobs and strong communities. And members will be centre stage.

As Australia’s biggest industry, one that shapes cities and creates homes, jobs and strong communities, property is vital to the nation’s prosperity.

Every day, the property industry helps build a better future for Australians.

But it’s a contribution that is not well understood.

Property Council chief executive Ken Morrison said there is a disconnect between established economic data and political and community perceptions.

“In 2015 we commissioned research to quantify the property industry’s contribution to GDP, jobs, investment and taxes,” Morrison says.

“The results surprised many in the community, showing that the property industry was by far Australia’s biggest, accounting for one ninth of GDP and creating more jobs than mining and manufacturing combined.

“As Australia takes the world record for the longest stretch of uninterrupted economic growth, it is the property industry that is underpinning the national economy.”

The Property Council has now commissioned an update to the 2015 data, which will form part of a new industry campaign to launch later this year.

“Our message is a positive one, and is all about jobs and communities,” Morrison says.

“The new campaign will build on our first industry campaign ‘Let Property Grow the Economy‘ to extend the public’s understanding of the industry’s economic and social contribution.

“Our members are passionate about the work they do – the jobs, the homes, the workplaces, public buildings and spaces they deliver to create strong and vibrant communities.

“Members will be encouraged to get involved in the campaign, to communicate messages to their staff, stakeholders and customers, and even use their assets to showcase the industry.

“The property industry is all about solutions and is playing a constructive role in addressing key challenges confronting the nation from managing cities growth to improving housing affordability and championing diversity.”

The Property Council will be providing members with regular updates, as well as campaign collateral for use, closer to the launch date.

Staff from member companies who would like to be more closely involved in the campaign build process, which has now commenced, are also invited to register their interest by contacting the campaign manager, Fiona Benson.
