480 Queen Street wins Queensland’s top property honour
A visionary office that has attracted both blue chip tenants and the Brisbane public has been rewarded with the state’s top property honour.
Dexus Property Group was presented with the Property Council of Australia’s RLB QLD Development of the Year award at a cocktail reception this evening.
“480 Queen is a vertical community that has transformed a once-neglected part of Brisbane’s CBD and brought with it new amenity and a sense of community,” says the Property Council’s Executive Director Chris Mountford.
“The building’s visionary design includes green open air spaces on the fourth floor, trees on the 32nd floor and a spectacular multi-storey ride through a blue rainforest mural.
“The tower’s design respects its heritage-listed neighbour, St John’s Cathedral, by maintaining the sight lines and connection to the river with an extraordinary public park – the first of its kind in Australia.”
The 1,0 sqm open-air Hobbs Park provides a public place with views to the Cathedral in one direction and the Story Bridge in the other. It includes an open, terraced forum that can seat 100 people, a fine dining restaurant, café and bar.
The entrance to the park is an experience in itself, with visitors wowed by a 3 sqm glass tile mural by acclaimed Queensland-born artist Danie Mellor.
“The design of 480 Queen is an evolution in thinking, and has achieved great commercial success, with an enviable tenant list including BHP Billiton, Mitsui, PwC and no fewer than five international law firms. We applaud the team at Dexus for its outstanding achievement,” Mr Mountford concludes.
The RLB QLD Development of the Year award is part of the national 2017 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program.
RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.
480 Queen is also vying for the SAS International Award for Best Office Development at the national awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday 5 May.
