2018 Retail Property of the Year Awards
Westfield Chermside has been crowned as the 2018 Queensland Retail Property of the Year- the state’s most prestigious retail award- at the Property Council’s Retail Awards Gala Dinner held at the Royal International Convention Centre on Friday 21 September.
The panel of judges were particularly impressed by Westfield Chermside’s second level expansion, which was described as a compelling attraction that takes full advantage of Queensland’s sub-tropical climate, reflecting the highest standards of excellence in retail property.
The Retail Property of the Year Awards publicly acknowledge the best in retail properties and precincts across the state. The award categories recognise and reward excellence in relation to design, marketing, presentation and food retailing.
2018 also saw the introduction of a new category- the Retail Innovation Award- with Kawana Shoppingworld taking out the accolades for its cost neutral closed loop Organics Project, which has seen 71% of all waste on the site recycled.

The Property Council would like to congratulate all the finalists and winners of the 2018 Retail Property of the Year Awards, both for their nominations and for their outstanding ongoing contribution to the retail industry.
For the first time, the Awards ceremony was followed by an Official After Party at Welcome to Bowen Hills, where guests were invited to continue their celebrations over strawberry sundaes and event-themed Tom Collins cocktails.
Thank you to Kym Thrift, AMP Leasing Executive, who was master of ceremonies for the evening, and to our panel of judges for the many hours of time and energy they put into visiting each of the centres and judging the huge number of nominations. The Retail Property Awards would not be possible without the work of these volunteers, ably led by David Hedemann, Principal and Development Director of Hedemann Property Consultants.
