2017-18 Committees wrapping up: Retail Property, Sustainable Development, Planning and Future Directions
As we are nearing the end of the year, our Committees are holding the final meetings of their 2017-18 term!
WA Retail Property, Sustainable Development, Planning and Future Directions Committees have held their final meetings this month, and as we wrap up a busy two years with the committees it’s important to acknowledge the hard work our members have invested in pushing for genuine change in the property industry.
The Planning and Sustainable Development Committees have both played a vital part in our advocacy. The Committees have helped build and shape some of Property Council’s major advocacy priorities such as METRONET precinct planning and delivery, and Building Upgrade Finance, as well as assisting in the formation of submissions on critical reform initiatives such as the Planning Reform Green Paper, Infrastructure WA and the Local Government Act Review.
Many Committee members have willingly volunteered to participate on working groups and sub-committees, providing expert insights into industry issues. Committee members have also played an important role in the success of our events by participating as guest speakers and panellists.
The Future Directions Committee were pivotal to the success of four great Future Directions events over the last year, including the resurrection of the Annual Lawn Bowls event. The event was brought back to life after a 12-year hiatus and had over 100 people in attendance to participate in the competition. The Committee also facilitated and promoted the elevation of young professionals in the property industry through the WA Future Leader Mentoring Program. The program was a great success, connecting 13 mentees with experienced professionals to help nurture and champion their career development.
The Retail Property Committee have been integral to the success of our advocacy and events, including the WA Property Awards and the Retail Conference. Many members put their hands up to participate as judges, be part of panel discussions and sit on sub-committees to delve into issues impacting the retail property sector. Members of the Retail Committee also met with the WA Police earlier this year to discuss security in the Perth CBD and explore how we can work together to make Perth CBD a safer place and promote the work the WA Police are already doing to achieve this.
Our members are at the heart of what we do and are fundamental to every aspect of the Property Council. The WA Property Council highly values the contribution all committee members have made over the past two years. We’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you for assisting us to advocate for a better, stronger and more prosperous WA.
