The Property Council has made significant strides in its commitment to reconciliation, culminating in the completion of its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2022.

The RAP prioritized building stronger connections with First Nations Peoples and promoting their career development within the property sector. As a result, the Property Council created the First Nations Professionals Program, which was piloted at The Property Congress in March 2022 with the support of GJK Facility Services, a partner of the Congress First Nations Professionals Program.

The program has since been refined in collaboration with two Alumni cohorts as well as GJK. This initiative represents a critical step towards promoting diversity and inclusion within the property industry while also fostering reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Taylor Paynter from Lendlease participated in the program for the pilot at Property Congress at Hobart in March 2022 and found the experiencing rewarding.

“The program provided a great opportunity and networking platform to meet and engage with other First Nations property professionals, from a range of backgrounds and disciplines within the industry,” she said.
“Getting to know such an impressive cohort of proud and passionate people at the 2022 Property Congress in Hobart reinforced my personal enthusiasm to provoke and encourage change within the built environment and property industry as a whole.”
The First Nations Professionals Program will continue to run at the 2023 Property Congress and the Future Cities Summit, supported by Rork.
In collaboration with Rork, the Property Council is offering 10 First Nations Professionals from the property or property-related sectors the opportunity to attend the Future Cities Summit through the First Nations Professionals Program.
Those interested in participating can either nominate themselves or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander colleague/peer. The selected participants will be invited as guests to the 2023 Future Cities Summit.
Nominations for the program will be open until Wednesday 19 April 2023, giving interested parties ample time to apply.
