Sonya Beyers is Director of Governance by Design, a leading consultancy and advisory firm guiding boards to evaluate the governance, processes and legal frameworks in their organisation, redefine the director-board relationship and foster leadership from the boardroom.

As a practicing solicitor, Sonya leverages her experience across corporate and non-profit sectors to help directors gain focus, troubleshoot a range of issues and optimise organisational performance.

Sonya holds directorships on the boards of BUSS(Q) Industry Super, Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees and Affordable Housing Solutions Limited. She also sits on The Forde Foundation advisory board and is a member of the Queensland Law Society Not-for-Profit Committee.

The financial services sector has been the focus of government and media scrutiny since Sonya’s appointment to the BUSS(Q) Industry Super board 4 years ago. The sector is undergoing fundamental change and Sonya has built strong networks to better understand these fundamental shifts. This commenced with Sonya being awarded the Garry Weaven Scholarship early in her BUSSQ directorship. She continues to strengthen her knowledge of the financial services sector and has recently completed a Masters in Enterprise Governance and is enrolled in a Graduate Diploma of Finance.
