Women in Property Mentoring Program a Runaway Success
The Western Australian property sector has taken a major step in promoting women in senior leadership roles.
The Property Council of Australia launched WA’s inaugural Women in Property mentoring program in June of this year and the results have exceeded all expectations.
Fifteen mentors and mentees from WA’s property sector embarked on a 5 month program. The program focused on women who are aspiring to senior leadership positions in the property sector and matches them with senior leaders within the industry.
Property Council WA Deputy Executive Director Lino Iacomella said: “There are some incredibly talented women in senior roles in Western Australia’s property industry. However, the fact remains that at CEO and General Manager-level, they are sorely underrepresented.”
“This program not only helped the mentees address the professional challenges they face, but also helped raise the mentors’ awareness on how they, as leaders of this industry, need to help change the culture.”
“The Property Council has dedicated itself to doing what it can to overcome the gender imbalance in the property industry and ensuring that the talents of women in property are recognised and rewarded equally to their male colleagues.”
Tony Perrin, Vice-President of the Property Council of Australia and General Manager, Frasers Property Australia commented: “My involvement as a mentor in the program has shone a light on the challenges women face in career development in our industry. There is a real need for greater support and a sharp focus on identifying and developing leadership and talent amongst women in property. By fostering confidence and belief, organisations can help women achieve their career goals however ambitious they may be.”
The Women in Property mentoring program is supported in WA by Frasers Property Australia, Hassell, LandCorp, EY, Mirvac, Scentre Group, APP, JLL, BankWest, Psaros, Access Housing and KPA Architects.
