Women do work in property – showcasing property careers to school girls
The Property Council is setting out to challenge the property sector ‘boys club’ stereotype by showcasing the industry to the next generation of female property professionals via its Girls in Property program.
The Property Council and Wilderness Girls School have teamed up to provide 43 Year 10 students with an all-day site tour of some of Adelaide’s most iconic development projects.
Research conducted by EY has shown the majority of women who work in the property sector end up there by accident – the Girls in Property program is designed to inspire female students to choose this career path, rather than fall into it.
The Property Council has designed the program to inspire the Year 10 students as they finalise their subject choices for senior school. STEM and business subjects are an important pathway for young women who are interested in working in the sector.
The tour will give students access to the best and brightest women working in the sector so they can hear first hand about their careers, projects and opportunities.
The students will get a behind the scenes look at some of Adelaide’s most iconic buildings were created, including:
- Adelaide Oval
- River Torrens Footbridge
- Adelaide Convention Centre expansion
- Skycity Casino redevelopment
- The University of South Australia Cancer Research Institute
- SAHMRI
