WA stars shine at national property awards

Two game-changing Perth projects have been recognised at Australia’s national property awards in Sydney this evening.

Elizabeth Quay and Blackmore Park Estate were applauded at the 2019 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority won the GOUGH Recruitment Award for Government Leadership for “transforming Elizabeth Quay from an under-used riverside location to a thriving new precinct in Perth’s CBD,” says the Property Council’s Chief Executive, Ken Morrison.

“MRA’s collaborative model aligned community expectations with investor requirements. MRA planned and delivered new public realm, while working with private partners to develop eight lots surrounding the new Quay,” Mr Morrison explains.

“The result is a vibrant new destination for the people of Perth, attracting 16 million visitors, $320 million in land sales and $2.2 billion in private development proposals. MRA’s visionary planning and execution is helping to build a place that is not only a popular local landmark but an international destination.”

The Growthbuilt Award for Best Affordable Housing Development was presented to LandCorp & Now Living for Blackmore Park Estate, located on the former Blackmore Primary School site in Girrawheen.

The 72-lot residential community has “opened up new opportunities for home ownership in an established suburb dominated by ageing housing stock and a high proportion of renters,” Mr Morrison says.

“The vision for Blackmore Park Estate was to inject new life and vitality into the Girrawheen area, delivering new affordable housing models and genuine choice for buyers, close to established retail centres, transport networks and recreational spaces. LandCorp and Now Living certainly delivered.”

RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.

“The property industry is our nation’s largest, employing 1.4 million Australians and generating 13 per cent of our GDP,” Mr Morrison says.

The Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards are an important platform to applaud the people who are building great cities and the places that serve and support all Australians.”

Award winners were announced on Friday 17 May at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre Sydney. A full list of winners is available online: www.propertycouncilawards.com.au
