WA’s best projects and people up for prestigious national property awards

Two revolutionary residential developments, a masterplanned community that connects residents with the Peet estuary, and a reimagined retail mall are among the West Australian finalists in the nation’s most prestigious property awards.

Six WA finalists are among 128 announced ahead of the 2020 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

  • Claremont By Mirvac – Rent to Buy (Award for Development Innovation)
  • Alkimos Beach – Surf Life Saving initiative (Award for Development Innovation)
  • Osprey Waters by Mirvac (EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned Community)
  • Enclave by Blackburne (Award for Best Residential Development)
  • The Cove by Blackburne (Award for Best Residential Development)
  • Belmont Forum Shopping Centre (Hiflow Award for Best Shopping Centre Development)

The awards program, now in its 38th year in partnership with RLB, showcases innovative projects, pioneering solutions and inspiring leadership in Australia’s property industry.

“The property industry delivers high-quality development that underpins the strength of our economy and enhances our state’s liveability. We are very proud of these six projects competing with the best of the best from around the country,” says Sandra Brewer, the Property Council’s WA Executive Director.

The property industry is Australia’s largest, employing 1.4 million people and generating $202 billion, or
13 per cent, of the nation’s GDP.

Two WA projects are competing in the Development Innovation category.

“Claremont By Mirvac’s Rent to Buy scheme promotes home ownership by lowering the barriers of entry for prospective purchasers. Alkimos Beach became the nation’s first BeachSAFE community following a ground-breaking agreement between development partners Lendlease and DevelopmentWA, and Surf Life Saving WA. These innovative projects both demonstrate how the property industry thinks innovatively to solve problems and create stronger communities,” Ms Brewer says.

Two projects by developer Blackburne, Enclave and The Cove, are competing in the Best Residential Development category.

“The 15-floor Enclave on Bronte Street delivered an affordable high-quality product with a remarkable level of customisation, including nine different floor plans, and incredible rooftop common facilities that upsizes apartment living,” Ms Brewer says.

“The Cove, meanwhile, was conceived for downsizers wanting high-end apartments with minimal ongoing costs. The location in Minim Cove, close to many healthy lifestyle options, meant the project could avoid the higher strata fees associated with facilities like pools and gyms,” Ms Brewer adds.

Osprey Waters by Mirvac is competing against six other national projects for the EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned Community.

“Located along the Peel inlet, minutes from schools, transport and Mandurah’s CBD, Osprey Waters had been specifically designed to connect residents with the estuary and provide a diverse range of homesites to appeal to a range of buyers and budgets,” Ms Brewer explains.

The Perron Group’s Belmont Forum Shopping Centre is in the running for the Hiflow Award for Best Shopping Centre Development.

“An extensive redevelopment, complete in August 2018, has reimagining the traditional retail mall. There are new gardens, public arts displays and an extensive interior upgrade that has revitalised the centre and invigorated the local community,” Ms Brewer says.

“RLB has proudly co-hosted these awards since 1982. Over the last 38 years, the awards have become an important platform to recognise and reward the people and companies building great cities and communities,” says RLB Managing Director, Mark Bendotti.

All WA finalists are in the running for the WA Development of the Year and the industry’s most coveted prize – the Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award.

“WA’s six finalists are a powerful symbol of an industry that continues to challenge itself to deliver better workplaces, homes and communities for all West Australians,” Mr Bendotti concludes.

National award winners will be announced at the 2020 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held at the ICC Sydney Convention Centre on Friday 15 May 2020. Tickets are now on sale.
