Two ACT projects recognised with top industry honours

The world’s first modular A-Grade office building able to be fully transportable by sea, and Tuggeranong’s world-class seniors’ living village Greenway Views are among the winners of Australia’s most prestigious property awards, announced today.

The two projects were honoured at the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards in Sydney this evening.

The Australian Embassy Development for the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat, by Global Project Solutions, won the ‘Procore Award for Development Innovation’, while world-class seniors’ living village, Greenway Views by FDC Construction and Fitout, won the ‘KONE Award for Best Sustainable Development – Existing Buildings’.

Property Council of Australia Chief Executive, Ken Morrison, said this was a particularly important year for the Awards to recognise the people, projects and pioneering innovation in Australian property development.

“After an incredibly challenging year, it has been an absolute pleasure to come together to celebrate the outstanding achievements in our industry,” Mr Morrison said.

“The ACT has demonstrated outstanding innovation across the industry, and we wholeheartedly congratulate the winners and finalists on this prestigious recognition.”

Property Council of Australia ACT Executive Director, Adina Cirson, said the awards recognised the extensive innovation and excellence in the Territory’s property industry.

“It’s a credit to the hard work driving improved liveability, sustainability, and economic growth across the Territory and we extend our congratulations to Global Project Solutions and LDK  with FDC Construction and Fitout for their awards,” she said.

Ms Cirson said the Australian Embassy Development for the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat project was an incredible feat of innovation in modular building.

“Global Project Solutions, in collaboration with the Australian modular building industry, has achieved an incredible feat in delivering an Australian-built, fully sea-transportable, modular A-Grade diplomatic office building solution,” she said.

“Not only is it in-factory built, stackable and easily transportable, it also meets the quality and security needs of a diplomatic mission. This solution will undoubtedly be used around the world for high quality remote location offices in the coming years.”

Ms Cirson said Greenway Views by FDC Construction and Fitout – which won the Rider Levett Bucknall ACT Development of the Year award in July – was an exceptional example of adaptive reuse of a former government building that had outlived its purpose.

The site, which formerly accommodated the offices of the Department of Social Services, has been significantly refurbished and converted into a high-end retirement village with strong sustainability credentials.

Completed in late 2019, Greenway Views comprises 210 apartments within three different purpose-built blocks, common area amenities, medical rooms, cafes, bar, gym, beauty salon, restaurant, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, education facilities, theatre, landscaping, new roads, and playgrounds.

“This adaptive change-of-use project successfully repurposed neglected commercial buildings into world-class sustainable seniors’ living and is well deserving of this award,” MS Cirson said.

RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program for the past 39 years.

RLB Director, Fiona Doherty, congratulated the recipients on their awards.

“Both projects are a testament to the innovation and ingenuity that drives the Territory’s property sector and the industry nationally.”
