Tonsley takes home national property award

Hot on the heels of being named the SA Development of the Year, the Tonsley Innovation District has taken home a prestigious national property award.

Renewal SA was presented with the KONE Award for Best Development Innovation at the 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards in Sydney.

“South Australia’s future hinges on its ability to create jobs and attract more people to the state. By cultivating high-value manufacturing, leading-edge research and emerging industries, Tonsley shows how innovative development can drive jobs, investment and economic opportunity,” says the Property Council’s Chief Executive Ken Morrison.

“More than 70 businesses are already operating from this technology test-bed, as Tonsley evolves from a manufacturing site to a collaborative working and living space for students, researchers and businesses,” Mr Morrison adds.

The 61-hectare project 10 kilometres south of Adelaide commenced in May 2012 and is expected to be complete by 2027.

Tonsley is home to Flinders University and TAFE SA campuses, as well as established and emerging businesses, and will one day be home to around 1,200 residents in 8 dwellings.

Rider Levett Bucknall Director Giulio Altarmura says: “RLB provided cost management and quantity surveying services that transformed Tonsley from a disused site into a thriving innovation district”.

“In a hotly-contested category with 10 other finalists, Tonsley was a worthy winner for its visionary masterplan designed to drive innovation and entrepreneurship,” Mr Altarmura adds.

RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.

The 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Award winners were announced on Friday 11 May at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre Sydney.
